Personal information . Do not give out personal information without your parent’s permission . This means you do not have to share a last name , home address , school name , or telephone number . Remember , just because someone asks for information about you does not mean you have to tell them anything about yourself !

• Name display . When making your screen name , do not include personal information such as your last name or date of birth .

• Password . Do not share your password with anyone except your parents . When you use a public computer to make sure you have access to your account off before leaving the terminal .

• Photos . Do not post photos or videos online without getting your parent’s permission .

• friends online . Do not agree to meet an online friend unless you have your parent’s permission . Unfortunately , sometimes those people pretend they do not . Remember that not everything you read online is true.

• Online Advertising . Do not buy anything online without talking to your parents first . Some ads may try to trick you offer free things or tell you that you have won something as a way to collect your personal information .

• Downloading . Talking with your parents before you open an email attachment or downloading software . This appendix contains a virus sometimes . Never open an attachment from someone you do not know .

• Bullying . Do not send or respond to mean or insulting messages . Tell your parents if you receive one . If something happens online that will make you feel uncomfortable , talk to parents or teachers at school .

• Social networks . Many social networking sites ( eg , Facebook , Twitter , Second Life and MySpace ) and blog hosting websites have a minimum age requirement for registration . This requirement exists to protect you !

• Research . Talk to the librarian , teacher or parent about the web-site that is safe and accurate for research . Public Library offers many resources . If you use online information in a school project make sure you explain where you get the information .
